Biography of Sister Veronica of the Crucifix (Hedwidge Davignon, 1820-1903), the fifth Sister to join the congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. She traveled from Quebec to Oregon in 1844 with the party headed by Sister Marie Rose. In 1849, Sister Veronica was named Superior General of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, and held that office until 1857. In Quebec, she founded the boarding schools in Saint-Hilaire, Beauharnois and Vercheres. Between 1864 and 1872, she was in charge of the missionary sisters in Oregon.
