Author: James Agee
Description: Sewn terracotta card wraps with paper title block. Five hundred copies printed on handmade Amalfi paper, hand numbered [436/500]. Top fore-corner lightly bumped. Clean. In a new archival mylar sleeve. Unpaginated. 12 leaves (6 blank). 9.5 x 6 inches.
An early example of David Godine's printing. Printed at The Gehenna Press in Northampton, Massachusetts. Limitation page features the imprint of The Mandragora Press and states that "This is the second in a series of letters, tracts and broadsides to be published by David R. Godine."
Printed here is the final letter, following thirty years of correspondence, between the American novelist and critic James Agee (1909-1955), and James Harold Flye, a priest and teacher at St. Andrew's Episcopal school near Sewanee, Tennessee. It was written just a few days before Agee's death, and found sealed, but unmailed, on Agee's living room mantel.
