Personal narrative of British diplomat Gerald Sparrow, recalling events and observations from his 23 years in Siam during the years 1930 to 1953. Sparrow had been appointed as a judge to sit on Siam's International Court and was closely connected to the Royal family. A colorful account of an influential Englishman living in Siam in the 1930s and 1940s. It includes material on his captivity by the Japanese during World War II, prosecuting opium smugglers, witnessing executions, local political and social attitudes, and some of his private affairs.
Gerald Sparrow (1903-1988) was a friend of Prime Ministers and politicians, judge, lawyer, Bangkok night club owner, as well as the author of several books of travel literature, criminal cases, and biographies.
