Giles Leroy French (1894-1976) was the longtime owner and editor of the Sherman County Journal. He served in the Oregon legislature from 1935 to 1951 and was the mayor of Moro for twenty years. He had also been many other things in his life: itinerant laborer, farmer, stockman, clerk, historian. He was known to thrust himself into whatever was going on around him and to write about it.
