Biographical sketch of Marie L'Auivoise Dorion (ca. 1786-1850), the remarkable Indian woman of French Canadian-Sioux (Iowa tribe) descent, who accompanied Wilson P. Hunt's 1810/11 overland expedition to the mouth of the Columbia River. She also made an additional two, maybe three, journeys between the Missouri Territory and the Oregon Country, serving as guide. She died and was buried near Salem, Oregon. A contemporary of Sacajawea.
