A dramatic tale of pioneer life in Ohio, revolving around the conflict between white settlers and the ''savages'' (Huron Indians), with the main character being Rose Forester. The narrative begins in the spring of 1792.

The full title is ''The Forest Rose: A Tale of the Early Ohio Frontier. A Semi-Historical Novel Covering Incidents Occurring to the Early Ohio Frontier Pioneers in the Lancaster and Hocking Valley Sections.'' It was originally published in 1848 and then revised in 1850. This edition includes a preface for the revised edition by the author (dated 1850) and a short biography of the author by L.S. Wells of Centerville, Ohio (1920).

Forest Rose was made into a silent, two-reel film in 1912 by the Thanhouser Company which starred Marguerite Snow as Rose Forester, and also featured Fred Vroom and James Cruze.

Emerson E. Bennett (1822-1905) was an American novelist and writer. He was born in Monson, Massachusetts, educated in New York City, and lived and worked in Cincinnati between 1842 and 1850 before returning to the East Coast.
