The author, Rev. Daniel William Howell (1861-1949), was a Methodist minister and a longtime resident of Buffalo. A graduate of Drew Seminary, in 1890 he became the first minister of the Floral Park Methodist Church on Long Island. During his career, he held several pastorates around New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Between 1908 to 1911 he served as the General Secretary of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle.
