Biography of Peter W. Crawford (1818-1889), a Scotsman and Oregon Territory pioneer, a surveyor who came overland in a wagon train in 1847. He was the first settler to have a donation land claim on the Cowlitz River. He founded the city of Kelso (named after his hometown in Scotland) and was Cowlitz County's first surveyor. He was also responsible for starting Kelso's first schools. Later he became the city surveyor for Vancouver (1883) and the Clark County surveyor (1884). He also platted the cities of St. Helens, Rainier, and Milwaukie.
Camilla Gladys Summers (1908-1990) was a teacher and a resident of Cowlitz County for more than forty years.
