Ezra Meeker (1830-1928) first traversed the Oregon Trail in 1852 with his wife. In 1891, he helped found the Washington State Historical Society and served as its president. He spent the last twenty years of his life ceaselessly working to preserve the historical legacy of the Oregon Trail.
