Also included are a poem celebrating the marriage between the recently abdicated King Edward VIII and the American Wallis Simpson, a poem about Miss Grace DeGraff (the principal of Portland's Kenton School), and poems about Shirley Temple, the beauty of Portland and western states, Wisconsin, Christian Temperance, love, and education.
Laura Victoria Thomas Davies (1865-1954) was born and educated in Wisconsin. She taught school in Wisconsin, South Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota, before moving to Portland around 1929.
