The second edition of the translation by Henry H. Spalding (1803-1874), missionary to the Nez Perce. The original edition was printed in Oregon in 1845.
Henry Spalding and his wife Eliza came to the Oregon Country in 1836 in a party that included Marcus and Narcissa Whitman, part of the first wagon train to make its way over the Oregon Trail. The Spaldings established their mission to the Nez Perce at Lapwai [aka Clear Water].
