Travel and descriptive account of Central Asia (today Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan) and of the 1873 Russian invasion of the Khanate of Khiva by the Russian army, authored by Januarius Aloysius MacGahan (1844-1878), an American foreign correspondent who worked for the New York Herald and the London Daily News.

This volume comes from the collection of John Wilson (c. 1826-1900), pioneer merchant and book collector of Portland, Oregon. His eight-thousand volume collection, considered one of the finest on the west coast, was bequeathed to the Portland public library in 1900.
