A nice first edition copy with a signed greeting from a couple significant persons with Welty's publisher. The text of Short Stories was originally delivered by the author at the University of Washington in August, 1947, under the title ''Some Views on the Reading and Writing of Short Stories.''

Theodore S. ''Ted'' Amussen (1915-1988) was a long-time New York book publisher who, beginning in 1938, held various editorial and executive positions with Farrar & Rinehart, Reynal & Hitchcock, Harcourt Brace, and Henry Holt. Mildred Salivar had been with Harcourt Brace since 1927 and became their head of publicity in 1947.
