Novel by Jim Tully (1886-1947), vagabond, prize fighter, and sometime confidential advisor to Charlie Chaplin. Jarnegan was Tully's first book following the release his acclaimed autobiography, Beggars of Life (which was also made into a movie). The novel follows Jack ''Jarnegan'' Muldoon, an Irish-American bill-poster who kills a scab laborer and is sent to prison. Following his release, he drifts into Hollywood where he becomes a great movie director, yet consumed by bitterness, heavy drinking, and a passion for debauching aspiring young actresses.
