Eighty-four sketches of Portland, Oregon's Old Town neighborhood as it appeared in the 1970's by artist Charles Edwin Reynolds (1909-2001). The illustrations present a large number of street views, showing the businesses, restaurants, and shelters. In addition there are several portraits of its denizens and a few views of interiors . The captions identify place names and locations and provide a small amount of historical or descriptive detail. These sketches document a part of Portland that was quickly vanishing, even and including five buildings that burned down during the year-or-so that he was making his drawings.
While Reynolds described himself as a self-taught artist, he did study sculpture at Syracuse while obtaining his degree in forestry, and later studied at Portland's Museum Art School.
