Small spot of soiling in margin of one page, pocket on rear free endpaper, else very clean. 48 pages. Dust jacket shows soiling; head of spine and corners are a little chipped; a couple closed edge tears; not price clipped ($2.75); in an archival mylar sleeve.  

The story of an Indonesian boy, Amat, who lives just outside of the city of Samarang, on the island of Java, and dreams of the day he will be big enough to ride a water buffalo.  

Illustrated in both color and black and white by Kurt Wiese (1887-1974). The authors, Jeanette Guillaume and Mary Lee Bachmann, were both teachers from Buffalo area of New York. The book is based on their many hours spent talking with an Indonesian exchange student at The Park School in Buffalo, where Bachmann was a member of the faculty.
