The book was authored by Edythe (1912-2009) and her husband David DeMarche (1910-1982), who were based in the San Francisco area around the time this was published in the late 1950s. David was a graduate of the University of Southern California, a professional sociologist and former faculty member at the YMCA-affiliated Springfield College (1947-1952), and later worked with the USO. He was an expert in community surveys of recreation and group work services.
