1920s treatise on the surgical and medical use of electricity and diathermy, illustrated, with background material on the physics of electricity and descriptions of the devices and instruments used. Includes descriptions of the techniques of treatment for various diseases and ailments, including cancer, nervous disorders, issues of gynecology, urology, proctology, dermatology, opthalmology, and nose and throat.   

Dr. George Betton Massey (1856-1927) served as the first President of the American Electro-Therapeutic Association in 1891. He had a private practice in Philadelphia and was considered one of the city's top cancer specialists. Between 1880-1887 he served in the position of electrotherapist at the Philadelphia Orthopedic Hospital and Infirmary for Nervous Diseases. In 1904 he co-founded the American Oncologic Hospital in Philadelphia, one of the county's first cancer hospitals. He was born in the village of Massey, Kent County, Maryland.
