Sam and the Firefly was published in 1958, being the sixth in Random House's Beginner Book series. In it, an owl named Sam befriends a firefly who mischievously flies around drawing words in the air at night and causing all kind of chaos to the people below.
P. D. Eastman (1909-1986) was a notable author and illustrator of children's books. He was a protege and colleague of Theodor Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss). Between 1936 and 1941, he worked for Walt Disney Productions as an assistant animator and production designer. During World War II, he was assigned to the Army's Signal Corps film unit that was headed by Geisel.
