Author: Jovan V. Vukcevich
Description: Card wraps. Near fine. Clean and unmarked. ix, 49 pages. [Matulic]
A poem set in the meadowland of Montenegro, Yugoslavia, on the heels of World War II and now in the midst of a violent civil struggle between nationalists and communists. The theme is a timeless one of love, innocence, and hope for the future stunted by terror, threat, and fear of war.
Jovan V. Vukcevich (1939-2022), a native of Pelinovo, Montenegro, was professor of Serbian and Russian language at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey for 36 years. In 1946 his family escaped Yugoslavia, his father having been a fighter with the nationalist resistance and the Chetniks against the Nazis and then the communist forces of Marshall Tito.
