Albert Gallatin (1761-1849) was a Founding Father, the Treasury Secretary during the Louisiana Purchase under Thomas Jefferson, and the ambassador to Britain, 1826-1827, during which he helped negotiate the ten-year extension of the joint occupation of Oregon Country.
