Inscribed from ''The Waltons / Dec. 25, 1910 / to / Mabel H. Swan.'' The Walton family was a notable Rockford family, centered around William Walton, vice-president of the Rockford Mitten and Hosiery Company. At least 18 recipes in the book were contributed by the Waltons: Mrs. William (Alma) Walton (1847-1917), and her daughters Misses Anna Burbank Walton and Mary Hannah Walton. At the time this was published they were living at 948 N. Church Street. Anna, who joined the club on April 1, 1898, served as its president 1944-1945.
The recipient of the book, Mrs. Mabel Hubbard Swan (1879-1914) graduated from Rockford High School in 1897 and taught elementary school in Rockford prior to moving to Vancouver, Washington, around 1907.
