Written with the vocational side of farming in mind, towards the making of farming as a profitable business for the reader, and the solving the problems of production, farm management, marketing, etc., including much emphasis on soil fertility as its foundation and crop and livestock management.

The introduction, written by Prof. Bradford Knapp of the Oklahoma Agricultural & Mechanical College, states that this is the ''first serious effort to outline the basic and important facts necessary to successful farming in Oklahoma.'' At many points, the author points out that successful farming brings in the revenue needed to build good schools, which in turn provide good benefit for the farmers. He also in keen to point out the importance of the proper yard plantings for farm homes.

Covers soil fertility, humus, legumes for the soil, manure, crop rotation, fertilizer and lime; plowing and cultivating; work stock, machinery, and farm labor; crop options (cotton, wheat, broomcorn, oats, barley, sorghum, forage and hay crops, alfalfa, other legumes); orchards and home gardens; rainfall; milk cows, hogs, poultry, beef, sheep; planning and financing the farm; the farm home; with the final forty pages on market strategies.
