An detailed presentation and personal memoir about the hunting of coyotes with dogs, based on the extensive years of personal experience by the Colorado rancher Leon V. Almirall. Even at the time this was written, in 1941, the practice of coyote coursing had been much diminished in the West as a result of the country becoming crossed with barb-wire fences. Almirall describes some of his many experiences coyote coursing in Colorado and also provides commentary on the best coursing breeds (purebred greyhounds, Russian wolfhounds, Irish deerhounds, etc.) and proper care and training of the dogs.
Leon Vincent Almirall (1884-1964) was a native of Brooklyn, New York, and briefly attended Cornell and Columbia universities, before heading out west to learn the cattle trade in Colorado and New Mexico. He went on to operate ranches in Middle Park, running cattle on the open and national-forest ranges, and then in Douglas County, Colorado.
