Thomas Anburey (1759/60-1840) was a young man of fair education when he left England in 1776 to join the British Army in Canada. After three years of imprisonment, he returned to England at the end of 1881. Travels was first published in 1789 and has long been the subject of scrutiny regarding the origin of his narratives.
