A collection of unpublished letters and some essays by the English Christian mystic and psychical researcher, Charles Massey (1838-1905). Massey was the first president of the British Theosophical Society and one of the founding members of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR) in 1882. This posthumous collection was edited by William F. Barrett (1844- 1925), also a founding member of the SPR and the founder of the American Society for Psychical Research.

Massey's letters and essays here address various psychical matters, spiritualism, mysticism, reincarnation, Christianity, Buddhism, space and time, love and death, consciousness, etc. Many of the letters are addressed to Laurence Oliphant (MP and Christian mystic), Rev. William Stainton Moses (VP of the SPR and spiritualist medium), Rev. Rowland William Corbet (mystic), [Mrs.] Mary Anne Atwood (spiritual writer), and Frank Challice Constable (barrister and science fiction novelist). The appendices provide a list of Massey's unpublished essays and papers still in manuscript form and seventeen pages of letters written to Laurence Oliphant to Massey.
