This copy belonged to the long-time mistress of William Randolph Hurst, Marion Davies (1897-1961), an American actress who retired from the screen in 1937 and who is closely associated with the character of Susan Alexander Kane in the film Citizen Kane. Harvey Clermont (1907-1978), a Hollywood casting director whose career spanned the years 1932 to 1973, later owned the book. He was the casting director for Perry Mason 1958-1966, and whose work also included casting for The Frank Sinatra Show, The Big Valley, Outer Limits, Yancy Derringer, Lassie, and The Mod Squad.
The Cast, a Pre-Code/early Golden Era Hollywood casting directory, was intended as a quarterly, and ran between March 1932 and February 1933. Volume II features listings for more than 2000 actors and actresses, with full page profiles (head shot and detailed career bios) for 105 leading actors and actresses, including Jason Robards, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.
Concludes with a directory of Hollywood studios which list their top officers, managers, and producers and also provides a list of the names of the artists under contract with them. There are also a few pages of agency advertising.
