Description: Four-page brochure, from sometime in either the 1930s or 1940s, for the Clear Lake (Indiana) Miridor Hotel resort. Clean. Shows light wear. 10.4 x 8.6 inches, folded in half, and then in thirds.
The Mirador Hotel was built in 1922 by the Rieke family on the on the West Shore of Clear Lake. This was a small, homey, unusually attractive resort hotel, geared to family vacations and a popular inn for many years. It officially opened to visitors on Memorial Day 1923.
The brochure mentions briefly describes the activity of the Clear Lake Yacht Club (which began in the early-1930s), the weekly sailboat races and the Miridor Trophy. It also mentions the ''newly acquired'' riding academy, located a short distance from the hotel, as well as the opportunities for swimming, fishing, and hiking. It also notes the Miridor Hotel's kitchen meal offerings (''Three course dinners every evening--$1.00'' and its daily and weekly room rates (#3.50 and $3.75 per person per day'' etc.).
The resort, as mentioned in the brochure, was managed by Mrs. Bertha Rieke. who died in 1952. The hotel was built by her husband, Henry Rieke, and the business continued for many years, with their children assuming many of the responsibilities. Clear Lake is about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne and about 10 miles northeast of the city of Angola.
