A study of the origin and development of the Brotherhood movement among the 300,000 Russian Germans in the United States. The movement had its birth in Russia among the German colonists along the Volga in the middle of the eighteenth century and was transplanted to America in the later decades of the nineteenth century.

George J. Eisenach (1900-1969) was professor of Church History at the Yankton College School of Theology from 1939 to 1963. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, held a fellowship to study at the University of Marburg, Germany in 1929-30. In the spring of 1939, he was serving as the pastor of Christ (German) Congregational Church in Racine, Wisconsin, whose members were largely drawn from Russian German immigrants.
