The author, Charles Milton Lewis Wiseman (1829-1904), moved to Lancaster after his marriage in 1853 and resided in the city until his death. He collected an enormous amount of information and, in 1901, he published a second volume entitled Pioneer Period and Pioneer People of Fairfield County, Ohio.
