Genealogy of the Davis and Romaine families, being the ancestors and relatives of the author, Lewis Jay Davis (1865-1964), the mayor (1904-1906) and a prominent figure in the city of Union, Oregon from about 1880 until 1910, when he relocated to Portland. Most of the material covers members of the families throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, though there is some information tracing the families back to the years of colonial America.

He traces the Davis family back to Benjamin Davis, who was born in 1735 near Roxbury, Massachusetts. The author's father, Jarvis Elliott Davis, was born in Gustavus, Ohio, relocated to Wisconsin in 1847, and then came to Union, Oregon in 1876. Most of the family he documents came from Wisconsin and settled on the West Coast, many of them in Union, Oregon.

His mother's side, the Romaine family, were Dutch immigrants. They are traced to Ralph Romaine (1695-1775) who, with his family, came to America in 1749 and settled at Hackensack, New Jersey.
