Early novel by the British writer Naomi Royde-Smith (1875-1964). She was the literary editor of the influential London newspaper, the Westminster Gazette, from 1912 to 1923, where she championed the work of Graham Greene, Aldous Huxley, Rose Macaulay, and D. H. Lawrence. During these years, she also co-hosted a literary salon which was attended by such notables as Edith Sitwell, Osbert Sitwell, Aldous Huxley, W. B. Yeats, and Walter de la Mare. She was married to Ernest Milton, the actor and author of the gay novel, To Kiss the Crocodile.
