A history of the ''Morning Star'' missionary ships, which voyaged from Boston to Hawaii and the Pacific islands of Polynesia and Micronesia. The first four sailed in 1856, 1866, 1871 and 1884, and the fifth, a steamer, launched in 1904. There is also a chapter on the ''Missionary Packet,'' a schooner which sailed from Boston to Honolulu in 1826. Each chapter describes the origin, mission, fund raising, construction, captains and voyages of each of the six ships, and provides an illustration of the ship being discussed.

The previous owner acquired the book in Honolulu in August 1945, while serving in the Pacific Theater as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
