A pictorial presentation of the early years of Escondido, as well as of the Grape Days parades and celebrations, 1900-1950.

This album of historic photographs was compiled and captioned by Lewis Carlton Ryan (1894-1982) and his wife Frances Beven Ryan (1901-1990). Frances was the daughter of one of Escondido's founders, Albert Beven. In 1975, the Ryans donated their 15-acre property just north of Escondido, originally part of the Eureka Ranch and known as the Ryan Oak Glen Reserve, to the University of California as a nature reserve.
