Biography of Adoniram Judson (1788-1850), an American Baptist missionary to the East and one of the first Protestant missionaries to work in Burma, arriving there in 1814. While enduring severe tropical illnesses and personal bereavements, weathering discouragements, he continued in his missionary work, and made the first translation of the entire Bible in to Burmese as well as the first English-Burmese dictionary. To the Golden Shore is the story of this vigorous, valiant, and sometimes contradictory man, his spiritual struggles, his unremitting missionary efforts, and his three happy marriages to women of ability and charm.
