Description: Antique photo album of Lynton and Lynmouth, circa 1890-1900, presenting twelve 5.5 x 8'' photographs, each mounted on heavy cards. The album's beveled boards are bound in green cloth, with a gilt stamped title and black borders on the front cover. All edges gilt. The bottom fore-edge corners are worn. Covers show moderate soiling/blemishing. Bookseller's label at front. Heavy foxing to margins of mounting cards; photographs show some fading. [Each picture is numbered and titled, e.g. ''23384 Lynmouth Torrs''].

A scarce volume of images of the fishing villages of Lynton and Lynmouth and vicinity on the coast of north Devonshire. The views show numerous homes and buildings, as well as Ley Abbey, the Watersmeet House (now a National Trust property), the mouth of the West Lyn River including seawall, Rhenish Tower and a two-masted ship, and Lynmouth's shore cliffs.

Bookseller label of William Crook (b. 1861), a native of Lynton who was employed as its sub-postmaster in the 1890s and who also ran a business as a bookseller & stationer. He and his family resided at the Post Office, per the 1891 & 1901 censuses.
