A volume from the first printed edition of Chrysostom's commentaries on the Pauline epistles, here containing commentaries on Thessalonians (ff. 1-47) and Colossians (ff. 48-86), and Corinthians (ff. 87-255). The work was edited by Bernardino Donati and was the first of several books commissioned by Giovanni Matteo Ghiberti (1495-1543), Bishop of Verona and secretary to Pope Clement VII.
Partially obscured provenance on ffep: ''aus Vaters Bibliothek (Aluys ___[?] 1845-1932)'' -- presumably the Swiss theologian and author, Aloys Berthoud (1845-1932), who taught dogmatics at the Evangelical School of Geneva and church history at the University of Geneva (there is a slip of paper laid in noting M. Berthoud, pastor, of Grandson, Switzerland). In addition, there is an inscription on the ffep in an earlier hand referring to Ebert's Allgemeines bibliographisches Lexikon, s. 325, no. 4194.
