Author: Compiled by Henry Hershey
Description: Green cloth boards with gilt title on front cover. Covers are rubbed and a bit worn; rear cover lightly soiled. Some occasional page soiling and a few instances of marginalia. 291 pages. Uncommon.
A Hershey family genealogy covering the descendants of the Swiss-immigrant, Andrew Hans Hershey (1673-1729), as traced through the line of his son, Andrew Hershey (1702-1792) and his descendants. The two came to America in 1719, along with a second son, Benjamin (whose line is not covered in this volume). The volume includes twenty pages of introductory material and is essentially a compendium of names with birth and death dates covering nine generations of Hersheys in America.
The compiler, Henry H. Hershey (1855-1946), was a longtime resident of Intercourse, Leacock Township, Pennsylvania, whose parents and grandparents are buried at the Hershey Old Mennonite Cemetery in New Milltown. He appears on page 266 and his father Peter Eby Hershey is on pages 241 and 265. Henry was a distant cousin as well as a contemporary of the famous chocolatier and Hershey Company founder, Milton S. Hershey (1857-1945).
