The story of Dan McDougall, who lived in the back country of Australia, and his bulldozer. All day long, they cleared scrub, dug water holes and felled trees. But Dan had a dream, to see the big city by the sea, and decided to have ''Dozer'' take him there. Dan loses control of Dozer in the city with epically disastrous results. The two of them were finally taken home in disgrace to the bush, which--Dan realized at last--was the place for Dan McDougall and his bulldozer.

A rare jacketed copy of the original 1963 edition, illustrated by Gerald Rose (1935-2023), a British illustrator of children's books and the winner of the 1960 Kate Greenaway Medal. The author, Lydia Pender (1907-2005), was born in London and moved to Sydney, Australia in 1920. In addition to her picture books, of which Dan McDougall and the Bulldozer was the second, she was a well-regarded author of children's verse. Her first book of poems was published in 1957.
