Published by Zedekiah F. ''Zeddie'' Williams (b. 1840/41), a native of Baltimore who operated as a general merchant and broker from about 1870 to 1895. Advertisements for his various enterprises (drugs, oils, fertilizers, etc.) are scattered throughout the volume. At the time of publication, his business was located at 42 S. Charles Street.

The previous owner was a farmer named John Edward Post (1856-1925), a resident of Lewis County, West Virginia. His name is inscribed on the endpapers with the dates 1887 and 1888, and his residence is indicated as alternatively Etna(?), West Va, and the town of Jane Lew.
