This psychology textbook by Asa Mahan (1799-1889), an American Congregational minister the first president of both the Oberlin Collegiate Institute (later Oberlin College) and Adrian College, was first published in 1882. Mahan's intent was to furnish a textbook that addresses the complete system of ''mental science,'' or psychology, not only the Intellect, but also of the Sensibility and Will, aspects which he perceived as lacking in most textbooks on the subject.
Original owner's small library sticker in upper corner of front pastedown. It appears to have belonged to James S. Snoddy (c. 1861-1922), who graduated from the University of Missouri in 1883, and served as the school's assistant librarian from 1884-1887. He went on to teach English at the University of California, Berkeley.
