$16.00

Item: Two pieces of Buxton Family Association (U.S.) memorabilia, 1918 and 1922

1) an ivory-colored ribbon (with blue lettering and red family coat of arms) from the 17th Annual Reunion, held in Douglas, Massachusetts on August 8, 1922.

2) a flier announcing a 1918 initiative by the Smithfield, Rhode Island, Buxton Burying Ground Committee to procure two new gravestones for two brothers who served in the Revolutionary War, Corporal John Buxton and Captain James Buxton, father Benjamin Buxton and grandfather Samuel Buxton the colonist to Rhode Island in 1741). [For reference, John appears to be interred at Brown Cemetery in Danby, Vermont; James at the Rhode Island Historical Cemetery #1 in the Northfield, where their father and grandfather are also memorialized.] The flier also mentions that Mrs. Warren Mann Johnson (Attie Pearl (Kimball) Johnson, a direct descendant John Buxton) was elected at the 1918 family reunion to be the chairman of the Buxton Burying Ground Committee.

There is a third piece of ephemera that comes with this lot: a mid/late-nineteenth century engraved illustration (from a book, probably) showing Smedley's Hydropathic Establishment on the riverbank at Matlock, located about 18 miles from Buxton, Derbyshire, England.
