The volume includes supplemental material, including Austin Craig's introduction, F. Jagor's prophecy which prompted Rizal's Policy of Preparation for the Philippines, Rizal's December 1896 Farewell Address, Additions to My Defence: Rizal's statement before the court martial, Rizal's brief remarks about the rebellion from his penciled notes used for his speech, and Rizal's sketched map (the frontispiece illustration) showing the spheres of influence in the Pacific at the time of writing his essay.
Rizal's four part essay ''Filipinas dentro de Cien Anos'' was originally published serially in the Filipino fortnightly review ''La Solidaridada,'' of Madrid, running through the issues from September 1889 to January 1890.
