An account of the Congressional committee which journeyed through Kansas and the Colorado Territory, into the New Mexico Territory east of the Rio Grande in 1865 for the purpose of investigating the treatment and condition of the Indian tribes. The chronicle was penned by ''Burwell,'' believed to be the Army surgeon Dr. Samuel Burwell Davis (1826-1874).

Inscribed in 1981 by Dr. Lonnie J. White (1931-2015), the University of Memphis professor of history and authority on Indian-Military conflicts on the Southern Plains (retired emeritus in 1989), to Charles A. Bobbitt, a local historian who served as the president of the West Tennessee Historical Society (Memphis) from 1971 to 1976. ''To Charles A.
