Description: Special edition of the Jefferson High School weekly student newspaper, commemorating the career and retirement of the school's founding principal Hopkin Jenkins, who served more than three decades, from 1909-1940. The front page features a large photographic portrait of Jenkins, an account of his life and career, a farewell statement from the students, and an additional article about Jefferson's first few years as a school . Mailing label in upper left corner of front page, else clean. Paper toned, but in good condition. No chips or tears. 8 pages.

From his Oregonian obituary in 1956: ''Hopkin Jenkins, 80, principal of Jefferson high school, Portland, from its founding in 1909 until his retirement in 1940, died Saturday at his home, 716 N. W. Rapidan terrace. Born at Nortonville, Cal., December 28, 1875, Mr. Jenkins had lived in Oregon since 1897. After attending Portland grade schools, he graduated from Bishop Scott academy, Portland, and received his B.A. degree from Yale university in 1900. He taught in Bishop Scott and Hill Military academy, then was principal of several Portland grade schools, lastly Holladay, before he was appointed first principal of Jefferson high.''
