Includes a couple fold-out illustrations, including a detailed diagram of an American Steam Locomotive with 254 parts identified.

Marshall Monroe Kirkman (1842-1921) was an American authority on railways. He served for 53 years with the Chicago and North Western Railway and was its Vice President between 1889 and 1910.
