Missing bottom 2-3" of material from spine. Some soiling to surfaces. Chipping along top and bottom edges. Not price clipped. ($2.00). The jacket has been repaired on the reverse with acid-free document tissue and placed in an archival Brodart cover. Provenance sticker from Bennett Schneider Bookseller, Kansas City, MO in rear. Rare dust jacketed copy.
Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, and monk. Verkade was an adherent of Paul Gauguin's art and a member of the Nabis group founded around Gauguin. The book has intimate glimpses of Gauguin, Pierre Bonnard, Wolff, Jawlensky, etc. Also his recollections of art school, and life in Hattem, Paris, Brittany, Florence, Rome, in the Franciscan Cloister, Beuron, Copenhagen, etc.
