Belle Starr was born in 1848 in Carthage, Missouri. At the age of 16 she ran away from home and was soon a member of the Younger Band of outlaws. For twenty years her name was associated with nearly every stage, train, or bank robbery in the Southwest. Her farm was used as a hideout for such desperadoes as Cole Younger, Jesse James, Bill Doolin, and the Daltons. The author, Burton Rascoe, used as his source material both authentic records as well as legends, plus contemporary accounts and court testimony to create this portrait of one of the most famous gun-toting females of the American West.
