This book presents a nostalgic look at Portland's "golden age of the theatre," when dramatic stock companies took "center stage" in the city's entertainment medium. Portland stock companies furnished an important training ground for numerous young actors who later became famous in professional theatre, among them Maude Adams, Verna Felton, and Mayo Methot. Stock companies were troupes of actors who would perform at particular theatres and who drew from their repertory to put on different plays nightly.
