Castello (1882-1973) was a Spanish fencing master. This was his first book and which was self published. He taught in Spain, Argentina, and Cuba prior to his moving to the United States in 1914. He taught at the New York Athletic Club and was the 1924 U.S. Olympic Fencing Team coach. He had coached at both Yale and Columbia and at the time of his authorship of this book he was the coach at New York University. He continued to teach at NYU until his retirement in 1947 when he was replaced by his son, another fencing master, Hugo Castello.
